For the summertime, there are a variety of local beaches and parks.   Lake Tahoe is 7 miles away.  We recommend Commons Beach, a four-acre park located here in Tahoe City.  Commons Beach is popular for sunbathing, swimming and picnicking.  Group picnic sites and children's playgrounds are located within a large lakefront grass and sand area. In the summer, Commons Beach is the home of free Concerts at Commons every Sunday afternoon and free Movies on the Beach every Wednesday night. We also like Lake Forest Beach which is about 20 minutes away and has a boat launch.  Slightly further on is Skylandia State Park and Beach which is located just north on Lake Tahoe. There are no shuttles in the summertime, but if parking is difficult, there are available ride share options.   If you enjoy water sports, head to Carnelian Bay, where you can rent kayaks and stand-up paddleboards at Patton Landing, or launch your own.  Patton Beach is home to Waterman's Landing, a gourmet coffeehouse, and is a three-acre, pebbly, dog friendly beach which is open full time in summer and on weekends during the winter.

Mountain biking is a popular activity in the summer and there are rental shops close by, for example at Factory Bike or Olympic Bike Shop. Rafting on the Truckee River is another really fun activity for the family. Hike out the door into any number of trails in the Granite Chief wilderness of the Sierra Nevadas. Our favorite is The Five Lakes Trail. Or go horse back riding for an hour or even a half day at Alpine Meadows Stables, located just down the road from the condo.

In winter, advanced skiers can ski from the Scott chair off the slopes to the condo. Skiing back from Scott is done via Gentian Gully. Ski the ridge until you get to a big old tree that the locals call the Broccoli tree, then ski down towards the direction of the ski area. When you get through the gully with rocks on both sides, cut hard right through the trees back to the condo. Needless to say, you have to be comfortable skiing some tricky terrain.

For dining options, the River Ranch Restaurant is about a 5 minute drive away from the condo and has views of the Truckee River from the deck. There are excellent restaurants in Tahoe City. For a casual family restaurant, try Jake's on the Lake with "mountain aloha hospitality" or Bridgetender Tavern located at Fanny Bridge in Tahoe City. For more elegant dining, we recommend getting a reservation at Christy Hill, which has French-inspired California cuisine, or at Wolfdales on Lake Tahoe's North Shore. Another popular lakeside dining spot is Sunnyside Restaurant. Further afield is the town of Truckee, which has a wide selection of restaurants.
